How it feels to be a 30 under 30 winner: James Thorpe
Sponsored by Luceco Group, the eFIXX 30 under 30 awards programme was established to recognise up-and-coming talent within the electrical industry, showcasing the next generation of electrical contractors.
Those who were nominated and ultimately selected as winners have all contributed significantly to the industry, having proven that they are willing to go the extra mile to deliver outstanding service and results.
eFIXX announced this year’s winners at a virtual award ceremony which took place on Thursday 31st March 2022.
One of those worthy winners is James Thorpe, founder of JT Electrical Contractors UK Ltd, who shared what it’s like to be nominated for such an award and then crowned a winner.
James explains that he first wanted to become an electrical contractor from quite an early age having started working for a family business.
I started working in the building industry at 14 years old for a family-run business. The electrical side of things really interested me from a young age, so it was always my intention to pursue this career when I left school at 16. I enrolled on a local college where I studied for just under a year and was then fortunate enough to find myself a full-time apprenticeship with a large company based in Birmingham, in which I served my 4 years in training to gain my electrical NVQ."
James was delighted to be nominated in the inaugural 30 under 30 awards programme:
“I was really pleased to be nominated and it came as a huge surprise when I found out I was one of the winners. It gives you some recognition for all the hard work that it takes to run a business. The day-to-day side of practical work comes naturally as it’s what we are trained to do but the behind-the-scenes part; admin, planning, enquiries, marketing, accounting and so forth can always be a challenge, so it’s really good to see this has been noticed.”
James founded and now runs JT Electrical Contractors UK Ltd. On starting his own company in electrical contracting James adds
“My focus has always been aimed at trying to build a successful, reputable company. A company in which the ever-changing industry, high standards and regulations are always met."

James’s advice for anyone considering joining the electrical contracting community is
“It’s a great industry to work in providing you have commitment and motivation. It’s an important industry which is ever growing, where electrical safety is the main priority.”
